The world has seen massive technological leaps in the last ten years or so. Innovations such as multi-touch tablets, cloud computing, smartphones, robotics, etc. have revolutionized the way we live and work. There is some kind of a 'digital mesh' surrounding each one of us, ambient and continuous experiences continue to emerge in a bid to exploit. Think about it, in the last 24 hours, you probably have had several moments of continuous communication with people using devices — smartphones, tablets, computers, etc. — apps, and other services.

Tsunami of New Technologies

Virtually every aspect of our lives has been hit by the tsunami of new technologies. Our businesses, in particular, have experienced a lot of disruption and mind you, we are just getting started, believe it or not. There is more to come. While it's impossible to predict what exactly will happen in the future vis-Ã -vis technology, we can use emerging trends to make an educated guess of what the future holds when it comes to IT. Here are some of the top technological/computing trends that will be driving the new IT revolution.

GPU Processors

We use computers in many aspects of our lives; working, gaming, entertainment, etc. The Central Processing Unit (CPU), as the name suggests, the processing power of a computer. The CPU reads, processes, and interprets input/data to execute commands. The faster the CPU, the quicker the computer can execute commands. Bigger CPUs can handle many commands at the same time without slowing down.

What if there was another form of processor and that's faster and more efficient than a CPU? Well, that would be great, wouldn't it? The good news is that that type of processor exists. It's known as a GPU (Graphics Processing Unit). In the past, GPUs were only used in graphical computing but that's changing. In the light of increasing demand for computing power, the use of GPU in non-graphical computing gaining traction.

A GPU processor can read and interpret data at a much higher speed than a CPU. A GPU is a better computation resource than a regular processor and with the increasing amount of data to process, an advanced GPU database is the way to go. As the amount of data an organization needs to deal with increases so does the demand for computation resources and that's where GPU databases come in. It's the future of computing data.

The Internet of Things (IoT)

IoT (the Internet of Things) is the future of technology. At its core, IoT represents a series of interconnected devices interacting with each other sans human intervention over the internet. With the prevalence of smartphones and related technologies, IoT is taking charge and promoting other technologies such as cognitive computing and machine learning. IoT is among the technologies that will be driving the next phase of IT revolution.

Cloud Computing

IT revolution will be driven by the demand for computing that can handle large amounts of data and storage of the said data is definitely one of them. The data collected by a large number of sensor onboarded on our machines and devices will need to be stored somewhere before it can be used to achieve anything. Today, with big data, most organizations are dealing with terabytes and petabytes of data.

The amount of data available is too much for our computers and laptops, which is why we need an alternative means of storage. This is where cloud computing comes in. The word 'cloud' is used to metaphorically refer to the internet. Cloud computing involves the use of the internet to provide a virtual, on-demand storage solution for all our information. Cloud computing is an alternative to storing data in the hard drives of our computers.
